Quartz Worktops and Crystalline Silica Dust

Marble worktops add a timeless elegance and beauty to any kitchen or bathroom. However, at Asper Marble & Granite, we are aware of the recent concerns raised in the media regarding the health risks associated with silica dust, especially in the manufacturing of quartz worktops that contain respirable crystalline silica. These reports highlight the critical need to mitigate these risks to protect workers.

Asper Marble Workshop

As a small, family-run business, the safety and well-being of our employees are our top priorities. We have implemented advanced industry practices to maintain a safe working environment.

Our manufacturing facility uses water-fed machines to minimise dust. For example, our automated CNC saws operate with enclosed doors and water suppression to prevent airborne particles from being inhaled.

While our hand finishing is minimal, when required, we use waterfall dust extraction systems and provide our workers with top-grade respirators, compliant with HSE guidelines. These respirators cover the full face and include a battery-powered oxygen feed to ensure maximum protection.

We also follow rigorous cleaning and maintenance schedules according to industry standards, provide high-quality protective gear, and conduct regular health checks and mandatory breaks for our stonemasons.

Our commitment extends to continually assessing industry standards and exploring new products and practices that enhance both the safety of our employees and the quality of our work.
